Dealing with loss.

Post by Rach on Sun Sep 20, 2009 4:53 pm

Hey Guys,

I'm not sure if many of you know but earlier in the week I was given the horrible news that a school friend of mine had passed away. She was only 24, much too young to be taken from us.

I have been very sad and my heart has been heavy these past few days and in my search for some consolation I came across this beautiful poem that I wanted to share with you.

I know that sometimes we all have down days and feel sad and emotional but I want you to know we are a team, and if anyone ever needs me I am here for them.

I think the poem below says exactly what I want to and I hope you like it.

Rachel.

I'll Be Here:

I cannot ease your aching heart,
Nor take your pain away;
But let me stay and take your hand
And walk with you today.

I'll listen when you need to talk,
I'll wipe away your tears;
I'll share your worries when they come,
I'll help you face your fears.

I'm here and I will stand by you,
On each hill you have to climb;
So take my hand, let's face the world...
And live just one day at a time.

You're not alone, for I'm still here,
I'll go that extra mile;
And when your grief is easier,
I'll help you learn to smile!

Rachel, it's like you read my mind.
I'm having one of the worst days of my life, and I feel that all hope is lost, that Michael is really... gone. I have this huge urge to just give up and drown myself in a pool of sorrow and sadness for eternity and I was just going to leave, but then I read this and I thought, "No, I can't leave".
I know it's been over-said, but we all are family and I can't wait until that bright, beautiful day when Michael comes out from hiding. "Yoohoo," He'll say, "I'm alive! The hoax believers were always right. They deserve free tickets to my new comeback tour" LOL.
Thanks. Smile

Rachel, I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. She is definitely with the angels now looking over you.

It is so sad to be taken away so young when you have your whole life ahead. I had a similar situation a few years ago...... but I remembered the good times and memories....at least you will have that. The poem is beautiful.

Yes we are all family here, and I know I'm new and haven't really chatted with you yet, but I am here if you want to talk. That goes for anyone on here also.

Keep your spirits up if you can....take care

Thank you guys. I really appreciate your kind words and support right now.

It got me thinking that life is too short and we need to live each day while we can and make it special.

We should never take anyone for granted and I believe we should always tell the people we love how much they mean to us. Life is over all too soon and we need to stand up and make it count while we have the chance. We should carry on Michael's message of love and peace while we can.

I am a little emotional right now so please forgive me for babbling on! I just needed to get some things off my chest.

Oh Rachel...you are so sweet...always thinking of others. I needed that poem right now. It has been a terrible day for me also. My pastor...who was a very good friend & neighbor to me passed away a few months ago to cancer. She was young and left behind 6 beautiful children. I have taken it very hard. The viewing was so hard for me, that I didn't even go to the funera. Sad I haven't even been able to attend my church since because I can't bear to look at where she used to stand and give her sermon. We were very close and ran an after school "Kids Club" once a week for children in our town. She was my best friend and I told her everything.

Well, she was cremated and they scattered her ashes today in our church garden...which is directly in my back yard (my back yard is connected to my church's back yard). I didn't go. I feel like the worst friend in the world. I just can't do it. I am grieving her death so hard...but I know I should be there for her family. It is even hard to look out my back patio window because I see her house where she lived (which is right next to the church). Her husband and children have since moved out, but I keep picturing us sitting by the church garden and talking for hours on end. I feel like a loser right now. I should of been there today...I just couldn't bring myself to go. I was dressed and ready to go...I was going to make myself; however, I lost it when I saw her husband and kids arrive...and I ran to my room crying. I couldn't pull myself together to go.

I live in a very small town, and our church is very small...and our members are very close. I don't want to let all of the members of my church down...I just don't know what to do. How come everyone else went & handled it ok??? Why is this so hard for me? I have dealt with alot of deaths over the years...even young friends like you, Rachel. This is just different. I prayed with her to the end of her illness that she would be healed. Even in her last days, she would call me and ask how I was doing...she was worried about me...not herself. She was such a special lady, and i know she went right up to Heaven.

I remember when she was first diagnosed (breast cancer)...it had spread through her bones, and she was supposed to be bed ridden because she had surgery on her hips. My oldest daughter was in a near fatal accident and almost died. My pastor came to see me every day at the hospital for over 2 months...even though she wasn't supposed to be out of bed. She never let her cancer stop her. She was always there for me...and now I feel like I have abandoned her.

My daughter is fine today. She carries many scars...but she is alive and healthy as can be. It was a miracle. Her lungs were punctured and the doctors couldn't keep her lungs from collapsing and she went through several painful operations. Finally, they were going to have to take part of her left lung out. She would of been in ICU even longer. The day came for her surgery, and they wheeled her away. The doctor came to get me shortly after, and said that he needed to talk to me in the back. I don't even remember walking to the back. When I got to the room...he asked "Have you had alot of people praying for your daughter?" I explained...yes...lots of prayer chains. Then he told me that he had never ever seen an injury like hers heal itself on its own....it was a complete miracle! I just really believe that my pastor had a special hand in healing my daughter with all of her prayers.

I don't blame God for my pastors death...I really don't. God needed her more than we did. I just need to get through my grief so I can be there for her family and my church. I'm sorry for such a long post...I just feel really alone and depressed right now. I should of been there today! I feel like I failed her and turned my back on her. Thank you for the poem Rachel...it means alot to me today. I love you girl!!!

Am sorry for your loss, and also any others who are suffering a bereavement of anyone close. Here is verse that has helped all my family and I over the years.
Gods lent child.
I'll lend you for a little while, a child of mine God said
For you to love the while she lives and mourn for when shes dead
It may be six or seven years, or twenty two or three
But will you till I call her back, take care of her for me?
She'll bring her charms to gladden you, and should her stay be brief
You'll have her lovely memories, as solace for your grief.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Unfortunately I once lost a peer who died at a young age. It was a difficult time and some songs are hard for me to hear since they remind me of him.

Your poem is lovely. It should ease some of your pain each time that you read it.

Remember the good times that you shared with your friend. Trust me, that will help you make it through the tough periods.

Rachel honey. I cant begin to even know how you feel. But I do know this. We are all here for you babe, and we love you so very much. Whenever you need me just say the word.

If you need me to take the nearest flight, call me name, and I`ll jump on one..
I wish I could do something to take your pain away. Say the right word, to make you feel better, hug you to make you feel safe, and say that I love you, so that you know you are not alone..

I dont now your friend hon but I still feel like I have to write something for her, and you mabye find some comford in this aswell

Its the same song Elton John, sang for Lady Diana at her funeral.

Here it is honey, listen to it.

Your friend has become an Angel, and I know she is in heaven right now looking down at you. I asked My grandfather to take care of her, he promised me he would.
