Were the tapes released actually from private therapy sessions?

Post by Confused on Mon Sep 28, 2009 11:20 am

I saw this on the Oprah website by someone called 'deborahff'. I don't know if everything she says is true but it is disturbing to say the least. http://www.oprah.com/community/thread/116546;jsessionid=ac11087930d6d8c0f96f0da942d7987ab5fac7f925e1.e38KbxqSbxiNe3mSe0?start=585&tstart=0

Rabbi Schmuley has recently released for sale some tapes he recorded of Michael Jackson. Schmuley says they were made with Michael's full agreement, for the purpose of putting out a book. He says they were done as part of Michael's desire to ‘bring the American Family Together.' Noble sentiments indeed; except for the fact of this is nothing more than a transparent lie by Schmuley to convince grieving fans to hand over money. These taped recordings were part of ongoing ‘therapy' between Schmuley and Michael. They were never intended for release and not intended to be sold. Many therapists tape their sessions, it saves on copious note-taking. On the parts of the tape I heard, you can clearly hear Michael answering questions Schmuley ‘feeds' him, followed by ‘advice' from Schmuley. These are clearly private therapy sessions by Michael, who may or may not have been ‘using' at the time, and is pretty famous for being duped by people. A leading Rabbi - not Schmuley, has gone on record on the Huffington Post to state how huge this trangression of Rabbi Judaic code is. This is a dishonourable breach of trust and confidence by Schmuley. He and Michael parted ways in 2003 when Michael was charged - Schmuley did not support him. I urge true fans -whether recent or long-standing to prove their intergrity and affection for Michael by NOT buying this shameful book. Has nobody questioned why Schmuley chose to convieniently highlight those parts of the tape that concern Madonna and Hitler (a perennial favourite,) on the eve of the sale of tickets for the This Is It film? How does this relate to bringing the American family together? There is a saying: you can fool some of the people some of the time but not all of them all of the time. These tapes amount to a shameful theft of someone's words, thoughts and feelings before they have had a chance to revise, think about, or possibly even change them. And Schmuley asks us to believe he did with Michael's consent? In the aftermath of Michael's death, I know many long to hold onto him and think that perhaps hearing him is a way to do that. I also hear a lot of talk about who is a true fan, and who is not? Please do not support the continued exploitation of Michael's memory. Schmuley is an opportunist - and he plays the part of Michael's friend like an true expert. Please do not help him profit from Michael's death.

I am very distrusting of this Schmuley person because of some of the things he said and did but would he go this far?? I know some of you bought the book. How was it written? Anyway..The only thing we know is what this guy has said but did he give proof Michael gave consent? Bringing the American family together by talking about Hitler and Madonna? A bit hard to believe.

Yes. That is very disturbing indeed. Early on, I didn't think Schmuley was really out to do Michael harm but after reading this, it makes lots of sense and he really just looks like another money hungry leech trying to profit off of poor, naive Michael. This is getting ridiculous. However, if Michael truly is alive, I wonder if he has something to do with the release of the tapes? I don't know this is all so much to take in and it is making my head spin faster than a dreidel.

This was to suspicious.... I really thought that this guy was on Michael's list of people he did not like...
And why agree on such things to be published, he made some really weird statments regarding women... I would not consent to that...
Some people must really hate Michael! I really wonder why??? even his own family does not seem to be upset about his passing (if he did die)???

Agreed! Sometimes the amount of information or should I say disinformation is overwhelming. But I haven't been able to take a break from all of this just yet.

I am suspicious of it too. Especially because he waited untill Michael was out of the picture to release them. If he had consent he would release them years ago. Don't get me started me on his family. Weirdest reaction to a family member passing I've ever seen.

EXACTLY!!! I wanted to beleieve him-because he said "this man has got be redeemed in the public eye" (or somethin to that effect) but this was so not the way to do it...and listening to the tapes on Dateline....it was so evident that these were therapy session (Michael crying more than once-and talking about the differant women in his personal life). Shcmulley said on Good Morning America that Mike wasnted them released for his fans to understand him...thenon Dateline they were for the family unit. Which is it? He said he cut ties with him because he "lost interest in their philanthropic events"-then he said he didnt help him anymore because he would have been "sucked into the vortex of self destruction MJ was on"...BUT as we saw on another thread NONE of those reason were why they cut ties. MJ distrusted him because he pocketed money from the Heal the Kids branch he was supposed to be helping on...and as Melisa Johnson said from HTW he did not do one thing for any initiative MJ put him over because "he was too busy working on his book in...2001! I hate to see it because it is a rabbi-but what kind of spiritual leader/counseler leaves a client when they are going into a chapter that could further destroy them? (He left him during or after that second trial. Sucked into a vortex my foot....that was wrong. I am not buyin his book or listening to him anymore. Michael let us hear his emotions and theories in all his songs and speaches-I don't want to contribute to the pockets of someone that is literally trying to sell a persons very soul. It wont redeem him in the eyes of the media-we saw Meredith twisting the recordings and her questions about them were so biased...and all that about Madonna was the truth but they are already labeling MJ a feaking sexist. Whatever ,it makes me sick. It makes me sad and it made me cry.

I wonder why too-he never said anything bad about anybody, gosh it was not until the very recent years he started really getting firm and indignant with the press (that wonderful sexy speach now called "the angry black man" and the Motolla slam) It just seems people thought he was bendable OR they thought he was so naive and lost that they were called to give him advice and when he didnt take it they showed who they really were in their actions...like this rabbi is doing now.

I just want to say something with regard to the statement that Michael made with regard to Hitler. The twist that seems to be reported in the media is that Michael said he was a genius, stop.

What I heard on the tapes that were aired on "Dateline" was that Michael said that Hitler was a genius in the way that he was able to convince people to follow him by virtue of his speaking prowness/words/charisma. That is what Michael considered genius, not Hitler's actions. I think Michael also said Hitler was a good actor.

Michael also believed that if he, Michael, could have spoken to Hitler that he could have convinced him to "see things differently"/change his ways.

I know that Hitler is a controversial subject and in no way am I agreeing with Hitler and his disgusting philosophy and actions. (Believe me that is not the case, my family went through quite a lot during WWII.) It's just that I think that the media is not quite reporting what Michael actually meant when he used the word genius. At least that is my interpretation.

I agree that Schmuley is doing this for his own gain and throwing oil on the fire by releasing these tapes and in not an altogether positive spin either.

MHO, nothing said is meant to produce a firestorm on the board.

@city.gal1

Thank you so much! I agree with what you said...thats what I meant by the media is going to twist the tapes just like they twisted his words when he was present. We have current leaders who are geniuses (in word and action and deceit) that does not mean we condone what they do in their genius way. MJ could not have cried over countries in genocide and children being tormented in war torn countries and been a Hitler supporter-thats why he thinks he could have talked to Hitler and changed him.

No-they would not validate any questions from GMA with an answer...because they asked about the abuse stories.

How his words are being twisted just before our very own eyes... I mean we are not stupid...
He said that Hitler was a briliant public speaker and that he was talented and that he was a evil genieus...
And I do agree with Michael on that one... every body can...
I takes talent to convince people to commit such horrific crimes against humanity...

I know. That is why I wanted to believe he was doing this for good. But when he said that he cut ties with him lest he be sucked in...I was like nope. Thats not right. You can use that excuse if you are backing away from a friend or family member-to back away after you have done all you can do and just pray that the chips fall so they can see before they hurt themselves...but not as a person who is counseling and claiming by God to have the answers. I am still confused as to wether he was really a spiritual advisor or just teamed up with MJ for the charities and gained MJs trust.

if these tapes were meant to be public knowledge, it would have happened earlier
don't let these vultures make money from mj or from us.
we all know what we need to know about mj. he was a wonderful loving, giving human being. he had a difficult childhood, became the most greatest performer ever known
all we need to do is keep the faith, and never stop loving him, no need to go out and buy books

Ah! Thanks so much for this post! This woman on Oprah and everyone else here are RIGHT ON! I've been trying to hold back my thoughts on this but, ever since these revelations came out, along with Shmuley's book, I've been suspicious as ever! Especially when i'd heard that Madonna was mentioned and Hitler was mentioned. Michael's words were taken out of context in regards to what he said about Hitler and even WORSE, what was mentioned about Madonna. And now I am aware that these may have been private therapy sessions??? I think there is no way MJ is involved with the publishing of this book! I think Mr. Schmuley has his own modus operandi going on here. These tapes were supposed to be private, right? I don't believe that MJ would just release those thoughts about Madonna like that, to the press, even though she may have been cold when they had dated, way back when, even though her image has always been rather immodest. Michael wasn't perfect (in the tapes he got down to the nitty gritty with honesty) but he respected women. He respected everyone. I truly don't think he'd release that stuff.
It truly is sad, how some of the stuff that has been revealed by the Rabbi, shouldn't have been in the first place!

I think this Schmuley, right now, is, and will forever be on my shitlist. This is a complete betrayal of trust and if these WERE from therapy sessions, then I believe the Jackson Family has the right to sue? Schmuley was MJ's ADVISOR...not a doctor, so Im not sure if thats do-able.

This is really sickening. Dont people have any conscious anymore? I could NEVER do that to someone. I dont think my brain even has the capacity to even think of doing something like this. Wow. Just wow.

Schmuley is just another money hungry %^&%^% who wanted money.
God, this is so sad these things are happening to MJ. Halperin too....Hes another one up there on my list. WTF is wrong with the human race? There is no trust anymore ANYWHERE. You cant even go to sleep at night without locking all your doors and windows. Now apparently you cant even tell a confidante your secrets without people running to blab about it. OMG....Im so MAD!
Poor Michael....no wonder he didnt trust alot of people. Do you blame him? And Schmuley.....a man of faith BETRAYS a friend like this. It just makes me shake my head in disbelief...it really does. And cry too.....

I REALLy hope MJ is alive and is seeing all these people stabbing him in the back so when he returns he can tell them all to F**K OFF!

I will resolve to not purchase anything that will put blood money in the hands of the Rabbi.

The more stuff I hear about the betrayals of Michael, the sadder I get. Can this man trust anybody?

I don't want to make anybody upset, but I wouldn't necessarily call Michael naive, I would call him trusting...too much so. I have been in therapy and there is no more sacred place (besides time spent with God) that a person can be. It's about trust. If he was pouring his heart out to the Rabbi, even by phone, imo, the Rabbi should have honored that trust. Obviously, he did not. Michael wanted to get better and get control of his demons and/or maybe figure out why he was making bad choices. That's why a person does it...not to provide material for a book. Jeesh!
Michael trusted him. Maybe Michael was looking for absolution from problems of the past and thought, because he was talking to a man of God, it could get that absolution. Boy, was he wrong. This is wrong on so many levels and really upsets me! It would be different if Michael wasn't trying to get better, but to get kicked when you're down...I just don't have the words to describe how this upsets me because of the therapy issue.

I will trust that God will judge the Rabbi and find him wanting. I know I do.

Peace

Talk about trusting God-thats all I have been doing. Somedays this stuff makes me so upset and my mom says "It is ok, they cant hurt him anymore"...that may or may not be true. But even so-it is still so wrong for someone to be so used. I guess that is why he always showed up for his fans-he could trust us.

It' so sad to see that everybody want$$$ a piece of Michael in whatever way they can. I never bothered to listen to those tapes because I know it will only upset me. Every one from all walks of life want to get to the limelight and the money at the expense of Michael - from politicians, media, doctors, entertainment industry, lawyers, officers of the law, family members and now a Rabbi who's supposed to be a man of God. For all we know, it's all made up, concocted tapes, edited tapes because I don't think Michael says anything bad about anybody especially fellow artist. Therapists should not reveal private session's informations unless necessary for legal investigations.

I am sooo upset then I think about Michael - how/what he went through with all these people who he embraced with all his love(trust would come with it) and his disappointment with all these people. Thank God he had his music to keep his sanity intact and I really admire his resiliency to go on with life thinking of how to heal this world of ours to make it a better place to live in (as he always says), and instead of his hurt/suffering, he thinks of how he will help those people suffering.

I really do love and admire Michael in all his ways.

Re: Were the tapes released actually from private therapy sessions?

Post by Make.A.Difference on Mon Sep 28, 2009 8:59 pm

Juliet,

That is what I mean about therapy and the sacredness of it. Michael IS human and even though he has a good heart, he still has pent up frustrations with other people. He put his trust in this Rabbi and what happens...those very private thoughts and words are revealed to make that dollar.

I have no illusions about Michael having those frustrations and hurts. Everybody has them. But if he felt he could put his trust in Rabbi Schuley to help him find the answers and shared those thoughts with him, I have nothing but contempt for the Rabbi, who now makes a dollar and gains his 15 minutes on the back of another human being. It really is horrible.

Truly, my heart goes out to Michael. Nobody, but nobody has been there for him. And to trust the fans...I'm not so sure he could do that either. I would love to experience seeing him in real life, but for goodness sake, the poor guy can't catch a break. We've all seen the videos and maybe some of you have experienced it yourself. Outrageous behavior on the some of the fans parts too. So he can't trust his family (Joe, LaToya and Jermaine) he can't trust his wife (LMP) he can't trust his staff (so many I can't state them all) he can't trust the children that he wants to help (Chandler and Arviso) he can't trust his therapist (Schuley) he can't trust his business partners (Schuley, Mattola) he can't trust his friends, (Mark Lester, Uri Geller) he can't trust the media to be honest about him, he can't trust his fans to not rip him apart or pull his hair out to get a piece of him. Who, just who can he trust? It truly is a wonder he didn't have a nervous breakdown or worse before now.

I really like being a part of this forum because I see so much compassion for Michael here. I believe he could meet every one of us, he could gain back some of the belief he had about the goodness of people.

You ALL here are changing the world!

Peace and Love...

There is nothing wrong with beeinng in or needing therapy. Ive tried that in my life, and it really helped. Michael IS only human like the rest of us. But because he is a "star" this has been made to something that its not.

It makes me SICK

I think this is very disrespectful towards Michael. It is NOBODYS buisness. Again he`s private life is exposed..

Have they no respet? He has feelings aswell.

This Rabbi is a piece of .... . I can't stand him. Did you guys hear the comments he made on what MJ said on those tapes? On dateline...
He didn't even get him...I mean, I'm only 25, not that much experience with life, and I still got what MJ was talking about, and I understood where he camr from; and it's not just cause I'm a fan...it really isn't..I just got him..And the rabbi said at one point that Mj didn't actually like what he as doing, he just wanted to be loved. Is he f.. kiddding me? What does one thing have to do with the other? Of course he loved to sing and dance, you can't do something lie that if you don't love it; you just can't! Wanting to be succesfull to be loved is not the same as performing without liking it just to be loved...
He didn't even believe MJ...said there were just on Mj's imagination...come on!!!
Where did Michael find these people? How much did they lie to him that he actually believed they where his friends?!
