Judge rules trial of Michael Jackson's doctor can be televised

The trial of Dr. Conrad Murray will start March 24
Opening statements are expected the first week of April
Murray is charged with involuntary manslaughter in pop star's death

Los Angeles (CNN) -- Jury selection in the involuntary manslaughter trial of Dr. Conrad Murray, accused in the death of pop star Michael Jackson, will begin March 24, a judge ordered Monday.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor also approved television cameras in court for the trial.

Pastor had set the trial to start March 28 when Murray invoked his right to a speedy trial during his arraignment last month. But the judge later decided it was cutting too close to the 60-day limit.

"Absolutely, we simply can't start on the last day," Pastor said.

The opening statements are likely to be delivered during the first week of April. The trial is expected to last about six weeks, according to the defense and prosecution.

Murray, who remains free on $75,000 bail, was not in court for Monday's hearing. His lawyers said he was busy earning a living with his medical practice in Las Vegas and Houston.

Pastor blocked the doctor from using his California medical license until the trial is completed. The state medical board requested that be made a provision of his bail.

Murray entered a not guilty plea at his arraignment last month.

"Your honor, I am an innocent man," Murray said.

He was Jackson's personal doctor when the pop star died June 25, 2009, from what a coroner ruled was "acute propofol intoxication," in combination with "the contributory affects of the benzodiazepines."

What I am wondering is, How hard/easy is it going to be to find a jury for this upcoming trial against Conrad Murray

It depends...for MJ's trial in 2005 it was not that hard but that was in Santa Maria.

Do you Really Gina?? How will that fit into Michael's plan? Can you see CM sitting in prison and all the while it's a hoax? Maybe a "set" prison?
I think the trial will be a real trial for all of USsssss to keep the faith.

This will be a different kind of reality show. Lots of controversy, opposing public opinion, only one judge. The name Michael Jackson's going to be heard on the news a lot! Yes, it would be so cool for MJ to be one of the jury incognito. Hopefully it will get good ratings!

I'm excited and a little nervous about the televised trial. I'll definitely be looking at the jury a little more closely though Wink

souza, thanks for pointing this out. I was thinking about this not long ago, but thought it was stupid to ask lol. The only charge against Murray is involuntary manslaughter. How come he hasnt been charged by misusing the propofol? I hope you understand what Im trying to say. I mean the propofol wasnt supposed to be use at home, only at a hospital facility.

Because it's not illegal to use to Propofol outside of a hospital so they can't charge him with that. They could come up with something else though if this was real... some conspiracy charge or something related to prescriptions, etc.

The date that Murray`s trial is set to begin was changed to March 24, 2011. Testimony will begin in April.
