Michael,Sony, Mottola. The truth??

Came across this on the internet. How could Sony act like that just because Michael didn't renew contract and didn't want to tour? Childish behaviour for supposedly good businessmen;


Despite the successful initial release of Invincible, debuting at number 1 across the world, Michael Jackson's new album and single were in trouble.



The, then head of Sony Music, Tommy Mottola was rumoured to be deeply unhappy with Jacksons unwillingness to sign on for further albums with Sony Music. Furthermore Jackson was allegedly unwilling to commit to a World Tour which would provide substantial promotion for the album.



In response to this, Mottola cancelled all promotion for the Invincible album and canned Jacksons charity single 'What More Can I Give' (Todo Para Ti - in the Spanish Version). Furthermore, the music video for Butterflies and Unbreakable were also scrapped. The only other video which was released was Cry, which did not even star Michael Jackson.



What More Can I Give was an all star charity single written by Michael Jackson and featuring over 30 different artists including Mariah Carey, Celine Dione, Usher and Ricky Martin. Jacksons stated goal was to raise funds for the disaster relief efforts that were taking place in the aftermath of September 11^th 2001. Jackson accused Sony of dropping the single as a retaliation against him not renewing his contract with them.

Jackson was also apparently concerned that Sony in fact wanted Jackson to fail, thus pushing him into financial distress. This would open up the opportunity for Sony Music to buy back the remaining 50% of their music catalogue from Jackson and achieve full ownership of one of greatest music catalogues in the world.



Launching into a massive retaliation, Jackson branded Sony's Tommy Mottola as racist in a massive public display of discontempt which saw Jackson touring Paris and London in a bus wielding the signs 'Sony Sucks'.



Sony responded by stating that it was Jacksons own camp that had that had canned the What More Can I Give music video, after discovering that the director Marc Shaffel was in fact a gay porn director.



Michael did however launch a spectacular 2 day promotion entitled 'The 30^th anniversary solo concerts', once again featuring an all star cast of performers. The shows were not without their own troubles however.

With that speech Michael was trying to let ppl know how the music industry is hopelessly corrupt. Michael wanted to put an end to injustice but of course the media tried to made him look like a crazy person.

- The media said that Michael was upset that his last album "Invincible" has sold only 2 million copies and that he was desperate to save his career. FALSE! Michael said that his album has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide and he was very pleased. Actually the album has sold very good worldwide, but not in the USA because it was boycotted by the media & Sony.

- Michael went crazy and that speech was nothing more than a way for him to get more attention. FALSE! With just 7 weeks before he was with president Clinton at the Democratic National Committee benefit concert and the press said he is a role model. How come right when he wanted to expose Sony he became all of a sudden "a freak"?

- Many black people that are in the music industry don't agree with Michael's ideas. FALSE! What Michael had the courage to say in public, represents a very old concern that Black Community has and all ppl know about this. There are many ppl who support him such as: Londel McMillan (he represents "Artist Empowerment Coalition”; members of the AEC include Stevie Wonder, Prince, DMX, Chaka Khan etc.), Terrie Williams, Dave Mays, James Mtume, Shakim Compers, David Patterson.

Michael had the courage to say what other artists couldn't. We can't talk about the USA's history without including black people. Moreover, the most known musical genres that helped build the popularity of USA (blues, jazz, Hip Hop, R&B, soul, rock’n’roll etc.) were created and developed by the African American Community.
