Jackson film will have limited run

A Michael Jackson film built around rehearsal footage left behind after his death is due to be released in a limited two-week run worldwide.
Distributor Sony announced that the release date for Michael Jackson: This Is It had been moved to October 28, two days earlier than previously announced.
Tickets go on sale on September 27.
The studio also announced long-time Jackson collaborator Kenny Ortega was directing This Is It, which offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Jackson preparing for a series of shows at London's O2 Arena before he died on June 25.
Ortega had been working with Jackson on the This Is It concert tour, which had been planned as a colossal 50-show engagement at the arena.
His other credits include the High School Musical movies and an upcoming remake of Footloose.
"This film is Michael's gift to his fans", Ortega said.
"It's a very private, exclusive look into a creative genius' world.
"For the first time ever, fans will see Michael as they have never seen him before - this great artist at work.
"It is raw, emotional, moving and powerful footage that captures his interactions with the This Is It collaborators that he had personally assembled for this once-in-a-lifetime project."

A limited 2 week run worldwide? After they spent so much money buying that footage they're only running it for two weeks?
I'm sorry, have I been mistaken my whole life? I thought the whole point of business was to make money not give it away esp for a corporation like Sony.

hm German media wrote 2 weeks ago about Moviestart on 28 of October ....well i am really interested what exactly to we have to expect from this movie- maybe its going to be waht we all wish? how knows- i just can once again say that we all need to be patient...
need to preorder the tickets in september.....

I don't think that is good idea ... that like a shot in the chest ... the movie shouldn't have two week run .. seems like a plan behind that.

Why on earth would we pre-order tickets a month earlier to see a movie that will only be ran for 2 weeks? I can't wait to see what the cost of those tickets will be? They have to cost more than the average cost of a movie in order for them to make a profit over a 2 week period. I would like to know where they will run movie? What cities stateside/internationally? There's definitely something going on behind the curtain. We'll have to wait until September I imagine! Keep the Faith!

So, there is a chance to the tickets may sellout so freaking quickly that I may not see the movie.

I live in a small seaside town and I am POSITIVE it wont show anywhere near me...except Savannah maybe. My bf is NOT an mj fan so I will have to try and go with someone else.
I may not get to go though....
2 weeks? They could make alot more money if it was run like a regualr movie.

I have no idea but I don't think i'll be seeing the movie. I live in a small town and there's no way they'll show it in the cinema. Maybe it'll go to dvd - I hope.

I think it may be a rouse to try and sell as many tickets as possible and then there will probably be an annoucement saying "by popular demand we have decided to extend the viewing".

These people are clever and know how to generate headlines and exploit people.

Just the fact that KennyO said that is suspicious enough (although it may be his usual crackhead self talking).
However - 'This film is Michael's gift to his fans' - Uh hello? There wasn't even a film deal in place when the THIS IS IT concerts or rehearsals were announced. They 'revealed' the film plans from the raw footage - conveniently captured in HD audio/video - after the 'death' - so how is it a gift to his fans?

He He! ishealive and APOM you are absolutely 100% right. Kenny Ortega messed up when he said it was a gift from MJ to his fans. So, MJ had the forethought to have a rehearsal video of his last performance made for his fans because he knew he was going to die therefore he wanted to leave them a gift. Yeah! right! pull the other leg. MJ is alive and behind all of this! Keep the Faith!

I absolutely don't believe this will only be shown for two weeks. It's a publicity stunt. It will be extended indefinitely, but they have to create the buzz and excitement first. This is hollywood, no one turns down money on their hard work. They will let the movie run ten years if it keeps selling out. (not that it would that long I'm just saying.)

People don't need to get worked up over this two weeks issue. The only way I can see them doing this for only 2 weeks at the theater is if they are RUSHING the DVD release by Christmas.
