In the vid for "Alright" JJ also wore a hat & that was during the Rythm Nation era.

theres a preview on youtube. It was a slightly different hat in alright and this one is just like his one size and colour hope shes not trying to be the new him unless hes ok with her wearing it !!!!!

I think you may be reading into things too much. The song itself has references to MJ so I don't see a problem with her wearing a hat that is similar to his. No biggie if you ask me. And I don't think she is trying to be the "new him". That's kinda ridiculous if you ask me. She is a legend in her own right.
