CNN Report: 'This Is It' moved friends to tears
Oh boy...
New York (CNN) -- For Kenny Ortega, Travis Payne and Michael Bearden, "it" is a bittersweet feeling.
The three men expected to be spending their time this summer and fall working on Michael Jackson's concert engagement at London's O2 Arena, which was scheduled to begin in July. Instead, they are talking about Jackson's last days and the new movie about that time, "This Is It."
I got to sit down with all three of them to talk about "This Is It," the movie that they've made from rehearsal and backstage footage of Jackson, shot just before he died June 25. The film, which has been dominating advance ticket sale outlets, opens wide on Wednesday.
The full movie wasn't screened for critics, with only 12 minutes of footage available to the media before the interviews. But from what I've seen and what director Ortega told me, it tries to blend backstage footage with the performance to give an inside glimpse of those last days at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
The scenes show the superstar working on his dance moves, figuring out choreography, practicing on stage and running the show. From the clips, there's no question that Jackson was in charge. His physicality is vibrant: At one point, he dances with a troupe of top-notch hoofers and keeps up with all of them. There's no indication of the infirmities that would ultimately take his life.
All three men -- Payne was the show's choreographer and Bearden its music supervisor -- stressed to me how they wanted this movie to represent the Jackson they knew.
"It was an honor project," Bearden said.
According to Ortega, the film is for the fans. He said he was inundated with e-mails from fans wanting to know just what Jackson had planned for the concerts he would never give.
Above all, they said they were concerned about Jackson's three children. They said that they wanted to make a film that his kids -- Prince Michael, Paris and "Blanket" -- would be able to see in years to come that would make them proud of their father.
Though the men acknowledged a heavy responsibility, there were light moments during the interviews.
Payne and Bearden both smiled as they talked about working for the King of Pop and how he'd try to tell people what he wanted.
"I know you mean well, but ..." Jackson would say as he corrected colleagues, they recalled.
But all of them talked about he emotional toll that making this film has taken on them.
There were "a lot of tissue moments on this film," Bearden said.
Ortega added that he didn't know whether he could handle the emotional stress involved in making this movie so quickly.
Ultimately, according to Ortega, the movie proved to be cathartic.
"I thought I'd collapse," Ortega said. "I thought I'll never get through it, it's too hard, it's too soon, but in fact it was healing and helpful."
He hopes Jackson's fans will feel the same way.
I'm trying to stay positive...3 more days till TII...yay...?

One thing that concerns me, sometimes KO is acting so jolly and positive and then he says something like "I thought I'll never get through it, it's too hard, it's too soon, but in fact it was healing and helpful." Is he trying to put on a sad face because he knows we are constantly questioning his happy one? He confuses me and sometimes hes hard to read.

Re: CNN Report: 'This Is It' moved friends to tears
I think most people will cry because of the build up of emotions over the last 4 months.
People who believe Michael to have passed away have got their closure. They know in their hearts what to believe. However we don't. We are still in a state of "limbo" and haven't been able to move on one way or another.
If I cry at the movie, it won't be because I have given up. It will be an outpour of all my emotions over the last few months. Crying is sometimes a good thing and we need to let it out once in a while
I don't mean to be rude, but if people say they are giving up after the movie then I don't think they were in this 100% to begin with. If I thought this was a movie theory and it turned out it wasn't, I wouldn't give up. I would explore all other aspects.

yeah i think you're right...I mean I know I'm gonna cry too, just because of that stuff what was going on the last 4 months. All those theories, all those clues and still we're not anywhere close to know what really happened. I do believe he is alive don't get me wrong. It's just frustrating

Re: CNN Report: 'This Is It' moved friends to tears
Whatever happens, don't let go of my hand.
I can't wait, 3 more days.
I don't know why, I just have a feeling that we will witness something very important in This Is It. Not exactly sure what, but it just seems that it is not just about showing him rehearsing, there is more to this movie.
I will be coming here after I see the movie, but will not ruin it for everyone else that has not seen it yet. It will be very interesting to see what everyone takes away from This Is It.
The countdown is on.

Re: CNN Report: 'This Is It' moved friends to tears
The report states nothing we didn't know yet
and I just read this KO statement...
I wanna hear him say these words....
then I have proof he really said this...
it's just print......not more ....not less.....
so I still have good hopes...
I don't expect revelation..but at least some clues

Re: CNN Report: 'This Is It' moved friends to tears
Nor do I. In fact I won't see the movie because I get depressed very easily. It doesn't mean I don't believe in the hoax theory. I still believe the hoax is still a big possibility. Yesterday there was a thread about an interview with KO (I lost the link) where he states that he didn't notice any signs of drug abuse. So if he didn't see any signs maybe it's because there were no drugs at all.badloving wrote:ok if everyone will come here and say they cryed their eyes off at the movie i don't wanna see it......

Kudos! I couldn't agree more! It's damage control time(because they know we've seen how they've been acting all happy and carefree) and they're going to act sad to build up the movie because remember, we're the minority. Over 99% of the world thinks he's passed on. You can't tell me that if nothing comes out of this but rehearsal footage that the contradictions and clues the last 4 months suddenly become meaningless...We know what we've seen, what we've found. This is jmo and I don't wanna keep harping on the Halloween thing of last week, but I know what I saw, who I saw..I saw Michael and I heard his name. Now I just wait for him to come forward maskless and tell us he's ok. He owes no explanation to us, but I do feel we deserve to eventually, in his time, to know he's alive and happy. Again, jmo...

This doesn't bother me concerning the hoax because I don't think KO or anyone involved with the movie knows about it. If he does, then he's putting on a good act all of a sudden.

I will cry too...after 4 months...I'll definetly cry when I'll see him...but only because HE'S ALIVE and he wanted to share TII with us...I will cry knowing he can still smile for the world...and I know this because my heart is so sure that HE never left us...
I'm so happy that I finally find my truth into my heart...so KO's words can't stop me to believe in the miracle!
I will cry...for joy and happiness...
Don't loose hope dear friends...LOOK INTO YOUR HEART...IS THERE WHERE THE TRUTH LAYS!
TTI...shamone...I can't wait to party after seing it!
It's all for LOVE! His LOVE for us! I LOVE you MOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
