9/11 Memorial Post
Hi all,
I hope you don't mind but I just wanted to set up a 9/11 Memorial Post to remember all of those who were lost on that terrible day 8 years ago.
Although I live in the UK and I didn't know anyone directly affected by this atrocity, there is one reason I have more than many other people for not being able to forget this day easily - 9/11 is my birthday. Since 2001, I don't 'celebrate' my birthday as such and I always take time out to remember those poor people and their families.
To all those who lost a loved one on 9/11, I send you healing thoughts and prayers.
Please feel free to add a post to this thread to let everyone know that you are remembering 9/11.
Love always XXX
JB.

Re: 9/11 Memorial Post
I love you, America!
Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day
Out in the yard with your wife and children
Working on some stage in LA
Did you stand there in shock at the site of
That black smoke rising against that blue sky
Did you shout out in anger
In fear for your neighbor
Or did you just sit down and cry
Did you weep for the children
Who lost their dear loved ones
And pray for the ones who don't know
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
And sob for the ones left below
Did you burst out in pride
For the red white and blue
The heroes who died just doing what they do
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer
And look at yourself to what really matters
I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love
Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day
Teaching a class full of innocent children
Driving down some cold interstate
Did you feel guilty cause you're a survivor
In a crowded room did you feel alone
Did you call up your mother and tell her you love her
Did you dust off that bible at home
Did you open your eyes and hope it never happened
Close your eyes and not go to sleep
Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages
Speak with some stranger on the street
Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow
Go out and buy you a gun
Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watching
And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns
Did you go to a church and hold hands with some stranger
Stand in line and give your own blood
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
Thank God you had somebody to love
I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God

Re: 9/11 Memorial Post
At the time, I worked in Arlington VA near the Pentagon. That day was unreal.
My parents had previously scheduled plans to leave for an out of town event. They had a very early red eye flight. Once the planes hit, I recall panicking and wondering what other flights would be impacted, One of the happiest moments in my life was hearing their voices at the end od that day and knowing that they were safe.
A good friend of mine was born on September 11th. Since 2001, she has not been able to view that date or celebrate her birthday the same. Driving past the Pentagon during the weeks and months after the crash, was very difficult.

Re: 9/11 Memorial Post
I remember it well .... very sad day .... R.I.P. to lost ones & families who lost as well.
Re: 9/11 Memorial Post
Thank you for starting this post. We have such a lovely panel of people here!
9/11/01 is a day I will never forget, ever.
I live in the Washington DC area so when the New York tragedies happened and we're all in shock, and then they crashed into the Pentagon and the rumors began the White House and Capitol building were next, everyone was just so afraid. It just gives me goosebumps typing this up. After the first few days, we found out that these terrorists people who hijacked the planes were staying in an apartment building behind where my father was living at the time. And the others were staying in a hotel 5 minutes from my house in laurel, Woah.
I watched a few videos on YouTube recently showing the building falling and they actually showed close ups of people jumping out of the buildings. It was sooo very sad and shocking to see. I had listened to a gentlemans call to his wife saying his goodbyes and telling her what was going on. All the sudden the building began to collapse and you heard him screaming amnd he was just so scared.. It made cry, it was just god awful.
My hearts go out to each and everyone the families affected by this horrendous tragedy that happened that fateful September DAY!
THE USA seemed to become more united and more caring after 9/11. We valued life and looked at things a whole differently after what had happened. It was a TRUE wake up call. But sadly, it has not continued.
Here it is 8 years later and we have a President who is not respected due to the color of his skin. Parents didn't want him to speak to their children about Education this past Tueaday because he is black or they are afraid he will turn them into "socialists".
It's sad.
WE REMEMBER THOSE LOST. WE WILL NEVER EVER FORGET. UNITED WE STAND!
I LOVE YOU AMERICA!!!
GOD BLESS ALL WHO HAVE WITNESSED AND EXPERIENCED a TERRORSIT ATTACK. It's the scariest thing ever.

Omigah Girlsaturday! Wow, I can't even imagine. You were very, very close to it all.
The view of the Pentagon from 95 was such a shock to see. The gaping hole that could be seen from miles away.
I remember everyone was scrambling to pick up thier kids and the phone lines were down. I was working at Verizon Wireless and our company was picked by the gov't for calls i guess due to the relaibale network, and it was just unbelievable that day.....
I can recall this day soooo clearly. I can remember hwat it felt like.... The weather, how the sky looked, what I was doing when I heard it, what I felt when i saw it on the news.
It was soo surreal....
I can't even begin to think of the families who lost their sons, daughters, husbands, wives, boyfriends, girlfriends and etc.
My heart breaks for all who experienced a loss from 9/11.

Re: 9/11 Memorial Post
Thank you for setting up this thread JB. You're such a wonderful person.
I also live in the UK and although I wasn't directly affected by what happend on that awful day, indirectly I was. I was only 15 at the time and it changed my perception of people and the world as a whole. I will always remember where I was and what I was doing when I heard the terrible news.
I will be saying a silent prayer tomorrow for all of those who lost loved ones.
xoxo
