Need your opinion on the forum

Hey guys,

Since the MJHD invasion here the board has gotten pretty busy and full. I get a lot of e-mails from members that encounter problems.

Because we can't get the database from forumotion, I have the following options and I would like to know your thoughts on it.

1. We create a new board that fits into the site better and can handle more data than this one. We transfer the most important and recent tpoics and this site will be available to read-only. I just lock this forum and we go on on the new board.

2. We keep it like this and have the risk the database will crash like the other forum.

Please let me know as soon as possible so we can work on it.

Does we really have to choose one? If that's so I will choose option (1). Need your opinion on the forum Icon_smile

I am afraid we have no other choice if we want the board to be stable. I have tried to work with this one in the website, but it's getting risky now with all the data.

#1 - read only is fine - if I could in any way keep the "watch list" for the topics I liked I would be happy. I would not like to lose my selection if feasible. If we cannot keep this, please let us know so we can set bookmarks in time. Thank you.

Do you have any financial constraints for the increased DB size / server?

I am experiencing a lot of troubles specially that I automatically get logged out. However would you have to create a new membership if option nr 1 is chosen?

@Grace No, no financial constraints yet... I'll check about the watchlist, I really have no idea.

@Alem, yes you should create a new membership, because it will be a new database. Good news is that the forum will be installed on our own server.

Option 1 sounds the best-as long as we can keep all the info we have gathered up to now. We do not want the forum to crash, is good that you have realised the problem before it has arisen and am sure we all trust you to make the right decision but also something that suits you as it must be no easy task and I and am sure all the others appreciate all your hard work. Thank you.

I would choose option one too.

Just a question - would there be a re-direct from the old page? Not sure if I'd be able to find the new site!

Maybe you can let us know the new address - I'm on here every day!

Yes, you need to re-register, so you can choose the password you want.

Well, I have my own opinion on that, but I will keep it to myself.

The problem with this board is that we have no control over the server and database and it is having glitches lately. That is why we want to get this on a read-only and create a new board on our own server to go further with the investigation.

Hi Souza, if Option 1 is the way to go to solve the probs then I guess that is the way to go. As you know, I am one of those that have been experiencing a lot of problems with the forum since the last change.

I think Souza said we'd have to register again. It was easy for me to register here so I bet it's the same with the new site. ^_^ Btw...I like the new site. The info on the main page is great!
